Moorpark, California

Moorpark is a city located in Ventura County, west of Simi Valley, north of Thousand Oaks, and east of Camarillo. Fillmore is to the north. Moorpark College, a California Community College, is located in the city and has an enrollment exceeding 15,000 students.

 

Moorpark Foundation for the Arts

The Moorpark Foundation for the Arts is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to providing support for the arts in the City of Moorpark. The organization is governed by an elected board of directors. Memberships are welcome.

 

Moorpark College Performing Arts Center

Moorpark College offers Associate’s degrees in Performing Arts where students can learn acting, directing, play writing, lighting, sound, costume and makeup design, and technical skills. The college offers a schedule of performances each year that are open to the public. They are well attended. Seating is available for more than 400.

 

Charles Temple Observatory at Moorpark College

Due to the generous contributions of Charles Temple and IBM, Moorpark College has a 12-inch mirror telescope which is available for astronomy lab classes and limited public viewings of major celestial events. Information is available through Moorpark College.

The High Street Arts Center is a large 270 seat community theater in Moorpark that serves Simi Valley, Camarillo, Moorpark, and Thousand Oaks. The Moorpark Foundation for the Arts is the organization that promotes and supports the art center.

 

Moorpark Civil War Reenactment

Every year in the fall, the Moorpark Rotary presents The Blue and The Grey, the largest Civil War battle reenactment west of the Mississippi River. There are staged battles, examples of life in the 1860s with historic figure impersonations, and dance performances. The two-day event attracts people of all ages from all areas of Southern California. It is absolutely worth attending.

 

America's Teaching Zoo

America's Teaching Zoo is a five acre exotic animal training facility at Moorpark College. It is home to more than 200 hundred different types of animals and is growing. It is open to the public most weekends.

 

Moorpark Symphony Orchestra

The Moorpark Symphony Orchestra, established in 1990, is sponsored by Moorpark College and consists of over 75 dedicated musicians. Its performers consist of professionals, faculty, students, and talented members of the local community.

 

Moorpark Active Adult Center

The Moorpark Active Adult Center offers many programs for active seniors. Fitness classes, line dancing, Tai Chi, Yoga, bingo, computer classes, art, cards, and more are available.

 

Arroyo Vista Community Park

The Arroyo Vista Community Park is a 69 acre park in Moorpark and is home to the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center. The park and center feature 8 tennis courts, basketball courts, 4 softball fields, 4 soccer fields, a roller hockey court, a football field, volleyball courts, picnic pavilions, barbeques, restrooms, children's play areas, a gymnasium, and lots of shade trees and open space.

 

Tierra Rejada Park

Tierra Rejada Park in Moorpark is an 8 acre community park that features 3 tennis courts, picnic tables, barbeques, a children's play area, restrooms, a basketball court, and lots of open space and shade trees.

The Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark and Somis are more than large working farms. They are places for the entire family to visit. Children will enjoy the Farm Animal Center, pony rides, wagon rides, large play areas and much more. Visitors can harvest their own fruits and vegetables, or you can get fresh produce at bargain prices at several stands. Your children will not want to leave.
The Tierra Rejada Golf Club, Rustic Canyon Golf Course, and Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park are located in Moorpark.
