Point Mugu State Park

The 15,000 acre Point Mugu State Park, located in the Santa Monica Mountains has five miles of ocean shoreline, sandy beaches, sand dunes, rocky bluffs, two river canyons, and more than 70 miles of scenic hiking trails. Point Mugu State Park is the western terminus of the Backbone Trail which extends nearly 70 miles across the Santa Monica Mountains into Ventura County. The park is located north of Malibu at 9000 W. Pacific Coast Highway in Point Mugu.

 

Chumash Trail - Point Mugu

Chumash Trail - Point Mugu is a trail in Ventura County that starts above Point Mugu Beach, northwest of Malibu. It ends in La Jolla Valley to the north. The trail was named in honor of the Chumash People who inhabited the area for thousands of years. Chumash Trail - Point Mugu should not be confused with Chumash Indian Trail in Malibu or Chumash Park and Trail in Simi Valley.

 

La Jolla Valley

La Jolla Valley adjoins Sycamore Canyon at the far west end of the Santa Monica Mountains in Point Mugu State Park. It is a very popular area for hikers because of its excellent trails and beautiful views.

 

The Great Sand Dune

The Great Sand Dune is a large naturally formed sand dune on the north side of Pacific Coast Highway. It is located west of Malibu and east of Point Mugu. It was formed over thousands of years by the wind and has become a popular place to hike. Views of the beach and Pacific Ocean from the top are absolutely spectacular.

 

Sycamore Canyon

Sycamore Canyon is adjacent to La Jolla Valley in Point Mugu State Park. There are lots of shade trees, great views, and restrooms along the trail.

Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwina is a popular starting point for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians wanting to explore Point Mugu State Park and Boney Mountain.
